£11,800.00A modern take on a traditional piece of furniture by talented rising star of the creative lighting world Martha Freud (pictured seated on the table).
Martha is inspired by the natural form. Here she uses light to emphasise and dramatise the sculptural twists and turns of the table's base.
Interesting shadows and illuminations are created similar to light flooding through branches of trees.

This 'Nest Table' as the lighting artist Martha Freud calls it, is inspired by the idea of a central focus to a room and the human instinct to settle around a hearth or fireplace.
It exudes warmth and draws one's eyes to it in the same way we are compelled to watch fire. It certainly makes for a comforting and interesting place around which congregate.
The shadows generated by the branches dance up and light up the people around.

As a lighting artist, Martha Freud is at the forefront of a new generation of designers coming through. We are totally exited by her work as decent lighting is hard to find in the UK.She sees light as a holistic concept. It adds depth and functionality to something that would otherwise be regarded as a sculpture. For her light isn't just a source of illumination but something that adds beauty and emphasis.
So a hall table is given a new take by being illuminated from underneath or a stainless steel kitchen suddenly gets given a new sense of dymanics by being lit in a variety of colours.
Nature is a major influence and everything she creates is with a sense of the organic and the environment.
She initially studied furniture and product design at Kingston University and from there went to work for Issa Coutour where she made furniture and other products. She then branched out on her own which was when she fell in love with porcelain.
